The Home-Remedy Version of What Mom Can Do

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a problem with inattentiveness, over-activity, impulsivity, or a combination. When your child is diagnosed with ADHD, they are given an imaginary ADHD kit that consists of psychotropic medication, more teacher-parent conferences, and ongoing memos concerning disruptive behavior. Since mom typically knows best, you can conduct your own assessment to assist school staff and health professionals. Follow these steps which will lead to a more thorough treatment for your child?s ADHD symptoms.
Observe Your Child at School for Three Consecutive Days
Why: Even though ADHD can be medically diagnosed, children and parents are still being held accountable for unsatisfactory behavior in school. One concern that is expressed frequently by school staff is that your child?s hyperactivity blocks the teachers from educating the remainder of the class who are focused and paying attention.
School administrators are concerned that your child?s behavior could be a liability to their business. Your purpose of observing your child in school is to conduct your own parental assessment. Your assessment will be free from any biases educators or health professionals hold in order to protect their own livelihood.

How: Visit your child at school on three different days in a row. Since children have a tendency to be on their best behavior when they see their parents at school, make the first two visits discrete. The best settings to make a hidden visit are during gym class where your child is too active to notice whose watching outside the door and lunch time.
In your observation, you are looking for answers to the following questions:
What is my child doing, that?s considered hyperactive?
In what way is this a disruption to the teacher educating the students?
Is my child not focusing in this setting because the work is difficult?
If so, how many times did my child ask for help and did or did not receive it?
Are the other students affected by my child?s behavior?
If so, in what way?
Is my child affecting other children by using physical or verbal gestures?
Do the other children feel safe around my child?
Are there other children in the class whose behavior similar to my child?

On the third day, monitor your child?s behavior by sitting in the same class. See how your answers may differ between the first two days and the third where your presence is fully known. If you are a parent who may find it difficult to take three days off of work, it?s understandable. No need to take the entire day off. Thirty minutes of observation is sufficient.
However, put in perspective that these three days may prevent your child from having years of low grades and frequent suspensions. Also remember that reputations follow children even if school records don?t. So three days may turn into a huge investment for your child.
Observe Your Child at Home for Three Consecutive Days
Why: It?s quite common for you to receive notice about your child?s behavior at school, but hardly see these behaviors at home. However, in order for your child to receive a diagnosis of ADHD, they would have to display this behavior across more than one environment. At home, your observation is not to prove whether or not your child?s diagnosis is accurate, but to observe in what ways their behavior is different at home than at school.
How: In your observation, you are looking for answers to the following questions: How is the structure at home different from at school? Is my child more focused with less people in the environment or more? What needs do my child have at home compared to the needs at school? Are the ADHD symptoms triggered when these needs aren?t met? If so, in what way? When is my child?s attention deficits and hyperactivity not displayed? How does my child interact with siblings at home compared to peers at school?
Observe Your Child with Treatment Team
Why: There are variations of the specialist?s title. Some are referred to as, Psychiatrist, Therapist, Behavioral Therapist, Child Psychologist or Counselor. There may be a slight variation in their function and technique but their overall purpose is to treat your child?s symptoms of ADHD.
It?s very easy for parents to fall into the habit of coming into treatment and reporting a long list of problems to the treating provider. On one hand, this is admirable, because you feel comfortable sharing your concerns with them. On the other hand, this can be counter productive to the treatment?s plan because the time is monopolized by your venting.
How: When in session, take note on the direction each treating provider is taking. Are you working with a problem-seeking provider who can only tell you what?s wrong with your child? Or is your provider more solution focused? Your provider may also have a sense of balance where they seek problems as equally as they seek solutions. For instance, a problem-seeking psychiatrist may keep increasing your child?s medication with the belief that it will get rid of the problem. Increasing medication may not be the solution if your child?s symptoms are triggered by a bully at school or academic challenges.
Record your observations in each environment. No need to be formal, simply jotting down of notes is suffice. Use this as a guide for yourself and the involving parties. When you have a thorough assessment, from your own parental perspective you will also be less defensive with school staff because you are now well equipped with your own abundance of information. Stay away from the desire of wanting your child to be normal. Normal is a standard put in place to measure what?s acceptable within an institution. Pressuring yourself to follow normalcy may take away attention from your child?s special needs.

Proper parenting skills are a major requirement in this lifelong child rearing preparation process and you have to be sure that you are equipped with good parenting skills. The arrival of a baby is just the starting preparations involved in raising a child, as we all know that parenting is actually a lifelong commitment.
The process of being a new parent
Parenting skills are something that you must become skilled at and it is basically earned. Parenting can be compared to riding a roller coaster, where throughout the way you will experience sky high thrills and even sometimes heart breaking downhill’s.
Here are the processes that you should know to become skilled in parenting
– Not all parenting information can be processed instantly by our brains in a day. Parenting will require a lifetime of endless learning, rejoicing and even suffering before you are successful. What’s important to keep in mind is that you should never give up on parenting. As long as you are open-minded when it comes to parenting, you have guaranteed that you have won the parenting race already.

Parenting is a never-ending job
Children now, regardless of their age needs help and proper guidance from you their parents. There is a time where the fine line of parenting is nothing but wide, smooth and straight, that is when you know exactly what to do. However, there can also be a thick and crooked line of parenting if you make and if you make a mistake or bad move you will end up falling. Parents seeing and watching over the years where his/her child’s strikes out their own to become independent and self-aware is incomparable. A younger child needs lots of attention as well as proper guidance as they are growing up.
Teach your kids self-reliance
To be happy (blissfully) is what most parents want for their child. You may still believe that by giving your child things that they want is pleasurable. As young as two years old, a child can start learning to do easy chores. As opposed to other children who have little or no opportunity to be allowed to explore self-reliance, who was never taught to learn that with possession always comes responsibility, and was never allowed to fulfil their very own needs, sadly they tend to acquire a sense of entitlement which obscures their sense of contribution.

Get more compliance from your child
Is your child the defiant type? Well, to deal with your defiant child is truly exasperating. To gain more cooperation from their child, you must always use positive communication – You have to try phrasing your request or command in a much positive way as opposed to a negative way.
Common child and parent problems
Your child will begin to revolt about attending school in ordinary school shoes, they might be asking for designer gear like those “other kids” and parents tell their kids not to feel jealous or even inferior. In lieu of the age that we now live in, a lot of the parents have to keep a strict eye on their children. How hard can being parent can be? In a sense, parenting can be considered as quite easy; however when it comes down to giving advice and helping your children this is where things get difficult. Plus, by being an active parent in your child’s school system you will learn about their behaviour while at school.
Make memories with quality family time
The following tips ensure that your family time will be stress free and will ensure that you will make your family memories last for a lifetime:
– Parents should turn off the television during dinner time so that you can focus on family conversations. During dinner, there should not be anyone talking on the cell phone or playing electronic game (except for emergencies).
– You can write down notes of positive and truly inspiring stories that you hear about in the media and then use those positive stories to start a dinner conversation with.
